There is nothing like waking up inside a tent, wrapping a shawl and stepping out, to be surrounded by thick clouds. At 2800 m above sea level, Triund Hill almost feels like a stepping stone towards the heavens. Triund trek will fill you up with happiness and excitement giving you a blissful escape from your mundane life.
Reaching the top of Triund Hill is on every trekker’s to-do list— and this is hardly a surprise. With a panoramic view of the Himalayas, an open sky for stargazing and a picturesque upwards trek, trekking and staying in Triund Hill in Kangra Valley is a dream come true.
It is a 9km uphill trek that most amateur trekkers can undertake, with a few breaks in between. Even the breaks are worth it: you will find small shops selling soupy Maggi and parathas with tea; the perfect meal for a mountainous journey.
With flocks of goats and sheep walking with you, and gentle misty rain welcoming you: can anything be better?
The trek to the summit of Triund is very mesmerizing. The hill is hemmed in by stunning snow-capped Himalayan Mountains.
At various points in the trek, you will catch stunning views of the mountain caps changing hues in the sunlight.
Based on the time you visit, you will be able to spot constellations such as Orion, the Hunter (in Autumn) or Andromeda, the nymph (in early Spring). Carry your binoculars or a portable telescope to spot shooting stars in the clear skies.
On the second day, the trek to Lake Kareri is steeper, so trekkers are advised to stick to rules and follow distinct paths. The beautiful Kareri Lake is a vast open lake, shallow and clear. Each side is flanked by stunning blue mountains.
In the mid-morning, we will see herders bring their goats and sheep, making the sight more pleasant. Travellers are advised to be very careful of ensuring that they do not pollute the area. Please do not venture too far at night, for your safety. The trek starts from Mcleodganj.
