Lahaul and Spiti Valley have become one of the most popular trekking destinations of Himachal for their challenging terrains and landscapes and harsh weather. 

Spiti valley (4000 meters) is a Trans-Himalayan territory surrounding Tibet and it’s also known as “Center Land”. Trip to Lahaul Spiti Valley will fill you up with happiness and excitement giving you a blissful escape from your mundane life. 

The trip will start from Chandigarh in a car so that you can enjoy the visuals of the beautiful landscapes. The trip will take you through the most elevated motor-able highways crossing the most highly elevated towns and beautiful lakes. Drive through the Trans Himalayan deserts of Spiti valley and experience the wonder of nature. The trip will end on the 10th day by arriving in Chandigarh from Manali.

Trip to Lahaul Spiti Valley Itinerary

Day 1Chandigarh- Shimla- Kufri- Narkanda

  • Start your trip from Chandigarh at noon, drive through the lower Himalayas and head to Narkanda.
  • After escaping the traffic of Shimla city, take a different route through Chail and Kufri.
  • Take a break at Chail, drink some tea or coffee.
  • You can also visit the famous Hatu temple if time permits.
  • Relax in the evening, stay overnight in Narkanda.

Day 2Narkanda- Rampur- Wangtoo- Sangla

  • In the morning, after breakfast, visit the Hatu temple if not visited in the previous day or you can head straight for Sangla valley.
  • On the way to Rampur, enjoy the beautiful valley.
  • Witness the sites of the huge Dam of Wangtoo Karcham and the Sutlej River.
  • Reach Sangla and stay there overnight.

Day 3Sangla- Chitkul- Kalpa

  • Wake up early with the beautiful view of Sangla valley.
  • After tea, start walking through the woods, cross the Baspa river then visit the Basteri village and the apple and apricot orchards.
  • Also visit the ancient Badri Narayan temple.
  • Then leave for Kalpa after breakfast.
  •  On the way visit Chitkul, the last village on the Indo- Tibetan border.
  • Head to Kalpa from Chitkul. Enjoy the scenic view of Kinner Kailash peaks on the way.
  • If you get some extra time, also visit the Old Shiva Temple and Buddhist Monastery in Kalpa.

Day 4Kalpa- Pooh- Khab- Nako- Sumdo- Tabo

  • Have breakfast early in the morning and leave Kalpa and head for Tabo.
  • You can clearly see the change in terrain from greenery to dry rocky lands.
  • Watch the confluence of Sutlej and Spiti river at Khab which is a beautiful scenic spot for photography.
  • From there head for a high mountain village called Nako and take lunch there. 
  • From the southern side of Sumdo, head to the point where entries to Spiti valley are provided. Make your entries and head to Gue village where a 550 years old mummy of Sangha Tenzing(a Buddhist monk) in a sitting position is kept.
  • Take some rest here and then head for Tabo.
  • Reach Tabo and overnight stay there.

Day 5Tabo- Dhankar- Pin Valley

  • In the morning take breakfast and visit the 1000 years old Tabo Monastery. Enjoy the wonderful sight of this place.
  • Next, go to the other side of Tabo where you can visit the caves which used to be a meditation spot for monks in the ancient times.
  • After this, visit another wonderful monastery, Dhankar Monastery which is also a 1000 years old monument.
  • Dhankar Monastery is on a cliff, from where the confluence of Spiti and Pin River can be seen.
  • From there, take a 45 minutes hike to Dhankar lake and have lunch there.
  • Then head for Pin Valley. On your way you will also visit Kungri Monastery in Sagnam.
  • End your journey for the day at Mudh village- the entry point of Pin Valley National Park.
  • Discover the unique culture of the locals- their food, music etc. and spend the night in a homestay.

Day 6Pin Valley- Kaza- Kye- Khibber- Kaza

  • Start the day with a walk inside the Pin Valley National Park. 
  • Take breakfast and head to Kye and Khibber.
  • Take lunch near a river in Kaza and spend some time there.
  • Then head to one of the famous and biggest monasteries of Spiti valley- The Kye Monastery. Kye Monastery has also an institute for young monks who come here to learn Buddha’s path.
  • After that head to Khibber village which used to be the highest village in the world. Explore this beautiful village which is also part of a sanctuary.
  • Then return to Kaza for an overnight stay.

Day 7Kaza to Hikkim- Komic- Langza

  • After breakfast head to Langza, the 2nd highest motorable village after Komic.
  • This place is also famous for fossils, you may find fossils while walking through this place. 
  • You can also hike from Langza to Komic via Hikkim, where the world’s highest post office can be found. Don’t forget to send few postcards to your loved ones.
  • Then head for Komic and enjoy the stunning view of snow capped peaks.
  • Finally head back to Langza for a homestay with a local family. The people here are very kind, and learn about their lifestyle and how they live in extreme conditions.

Day 8Kaza to Losar- Kunzum Pass- Chandratal Lake

  • After breakfast, head towards Chandratal Lake. 
  • The surroundings of this lake are so beautiful that no one can stop themselves from clicking pictures. 
  • You will camp beside the lake in a dome tent for overnight stay.

Day 9Chandratal to Batal- Chatru- Gramphoo- Rohtang Pass- Manali

  • Leave early in the morning after breakfast to reach Manali.
  • Take a small break at Batal and have a cup of tea at Chandra Dhaba.
  • Reach Rohtang pass by early afternoon and spend some time there.
  • Then drive to Manali. A small get together will be arranged in the evening over dinner.
  • Overnight stay in Manali.

Day 10Manali to Chandigarh

  • Early in the morning, get ready and take a drive from Manali to Chandigarh and end this trip.

Trip to Lahaul Spiti Valley: Booking Confirmation Policy

  • The customer receives a confirmation voucher via email within 6 hours of successful booking. Yes, we are fast and we like it that way.
  • In case the preferred slots are unavailable, we will call you for alternate tours or refund you the money in your bank account (if you don’t want to book with us, that’s fine – heartbreaks are difficult but life is not fair 🙁 )

Trip to Lahaul Spiti Valley: Cancellation Policy

  • If cancellations are made 15 days before the start date of the trip, 0% of the total tour cost will be charged as cancellation fees.
  • If cancellations are made within 7-15 days before the start date of the trip, 0% of the total tour cost will be charged as cancellation fees.
  • If cancellations are made within 0-7 days before the start date of the trip, 0% of the total tour cost will be charged as cancellation fees.
  • Cancellations are strictly subjected to cancellation policies mentioned on the website and we are sad to let you go and only wish you will come back to have a great journey with us.
  • In case of unforeseen weather conditions or government restrictions, we will refund you the money to 90%. We can also arrange for alternate arrangements for you, if you still love us, of course.

  • The applicable refund amount will be processed within 3 business days
  • All applicable refunds will be done in the traveller’s account by original payment mode i.e in your bank account. We don’t believe in refunding your amount and calling it “xyz cash”, we refund you in your bank account using your money wisely!
