Manali to Spiti Valley Trek Itinerary

Day 1Arrive at Manali

  • On reaching Manali, you will check-in at a hotel. Get along with the surroundings for the upcoming trip.
  • You can spend the day enjoying the crisp sunny weather of the hill station of Manali and visiting the local sightseeing spots like Hidimba or Manu temple, indulge in a bath in the hot springs at Vashisht, or savour the good Continental food at one of the numerous cafes of Old Manali.
  • The team is open to offer you any guidance that might be required.
  • A briefing session shall take place in the afternoon after the arrival of the rest of the group.
  • You must get an ample amount of rest so that when we start the journey early in the morning, you feel rejuvenated about the upcoming trip.

Day 2Manali to Kaza

  • Departing early in the morning from the hotel, the group will head towards Spiti Valley. The trip will last for 10 hours and it will cover 220 kilometres.
  • After journeying to the Rohtang pass we’ll spend some time there to admire the breathtaking view. Then we’ll head towards Gramphoo for breakfast.
  • A gradual change of landscape is to be noticed as we move further from Gramphoo as the number of trees begins to lessen, the peaks become steeper and the landscape turns more and more barren.
  • As we head towards Chatru, we will come across some of the most magnificent waterfalls which prove to be dangerous. After Chatru as we will head towards our destination, a drastic change in the surroundings is observed as the terrain here consists of a huge stream of gushing water cutting across the rocks and finally joining with Chandra river.
  • We will stop for a lunch break at Batal and after that, we will head to Kunzum Pass. Here we should pray to the Kunzum Goddess for a safe and beautiful journey ahead to Spiti Valley.
  • After the bumpy ride along non-existent roads from Gramphoo, we will reach Lohsar and head to Kaza from there after a small break.
  • On reaching Kaza, after a two-hour awe-inspiring ride, we will retire for the evening. After checking in, we will have a briefing session for the following day.

Day 3Kaza, Key to Kibber to Kaza

  • The day will start with breakfast followed by lunch by the riverside in the afternoon. You can spend some time soaking in the Himalayan sunlight and enjoy the pleasant weather.
  • After lunch, we’ll head to the Key monastery which is upon a small hill, thus providing a stunning view of the rest of the valley. The Key monastery is a great centre of learning in the Spiti Valley. You can enjoy a cup of tea while admiring the view from the roof of the monastery.
  • We’ll travel to the Kibber village, which used to be the highest motorable village in the world before Komic. The mountains surrounding Kibber are the natural habitat of extremely rare species of snow leopards and Siberian Ibex.
  • We will then head back to Kaza.

Day 4Kaza to Dhankar and Tabo and back to Kaza

  • The next morning we will head to Tabo Monastery after a short visit to the Dhankar Monastery and lake on the way. The monastery had been built almost a thousand years ago on the cliff of a mountain close to the confluence of the Pin and Spiti rivers.
  • Then, after an optional hike to Dhankar Lake, which is a steep climb of 45 minutes, we’ll spend some time by the lake and then head back.
  • Next, we will also visit the Tabo Monastery. The Tabo Monastery is also known as the “Ajanta of the Himalayas” owing to the exquisite paintings and murals on the walls of the main sanctum, which makes the visit worth it. We will head back to Kaza at the end of the day.

Day 5Kaza to Langza, Hikkim and Komic

  • After breakfast, we’ll head towards the second most elevated motorable village after Komik- Langza. Even while strolling in this village, you might come across pieces of ancient fossils here, and hence it is a major attraction for fossil research.
  • You can also hike from Langza to Komic after a stop at Hikkim. Take the opportunity to send postcards to your loved ones from the world’s highest post office at Langza.
  • Komic will be the last point of the day where you will capture the spectacular view of snowy peaks glowing in the sunlight.
  • The monastery at Komic is functional even in the winter months when the temperature dips as low as -30° Celsius, resulting in severe road blockage.
  • At the end of the journey, we will head to Langza for a homestay. You will get to enjoy the hospitality and comfort of the homes of a local family while getting to know their culture.

Day 6Langza to Chandratal

  • After breakfast, you will head towards Chandratal Lake. This charming sight will make it impossible for you not to capture its beauty in photographs. The lake changes its facade every hour, each as captivating as the previous one.
  • To provide you with a proper camping experience, dome tents will be set up under starry skies and snowy peaks.

Day 7Chandratal to Manali

  • We’ll start our journey by going back to Manali after an early breakfast. A small break will be arranged at Batal.
  • We should reach Rohtang Pass by early afternoon and spend some time there so that you can capture the glacial ranges one final time.
  • After reaching Manali, a small get together will be organized so that you can bid farewell to your companions on the journey.
  • Take rest for the night in Manali.
