At a distance of 65 KMs away from Bangalore there is one of the major hillrocks on route to the Nandi Hill Mountain known as “Horagina Betta”, which means the outside rock ( Aka Nandi One), is a popular tourist destination. For a day trip, a nice drive from Bangalore and good trekking tracks make Channagiri an ideal destination. The terrain is very diverse, rocky at some places. There is a considerable amount of bird population residing in the slopes- like the Nilgiri Woodpigeon, breeding pair of Shaheen Falcon, Peregrine Falcon & Yellow-throated Bulbul at hillslopes attract lots of birdwatchers and photographers. The evergreen forest patch on top of the hill is a favoured wintering location for many migrant species of warblers, flycatchers and thrushes.
